Senior Services

The City of Golden strives to improve the quality of life for older adults by providing referrals to services and opportunities for recreation, intellectual stimulation, physical activity, volunteering and social connection through programming and resource navigation.

There are many resources for older adults and/or their caregivers in Golden, the surrounding metro area, and within Colorado.
General Assistance
Senior Resource Center
The Senior Resource Center provides an array of services to help older adults stay safe, healthy and independent at home longer, and an Adult Day Center to keep seniors engaged with others in their community. They also provide support services for caregivers.

DRCOG Area Agency on Aging
Serving adults 60 and older, people with disabilities over 18, and their caregivers, the DRCOG Area Agency on Aging helps connect residents of Jefferson County and neighboring communities with the resources and services they need–many of which are free or provided at a low cost.

Foothills Regional Housing
Foothills Regional Housing owns and manages four (4) subsidized senior housing apartment complexes, including two (2) located in Golden–Canyon Gate Apartments and Lewis Court. 
These properties provide independent living apartments, with Service Coordinators available to offer support services, including:
  • Navigating Medicare and the health care system
  • Host resident events to keep residents engaged in their community
  • Serve as a liaison between residents and their property manager
  • Advocating for their needs and mediating issues, as needed.
RTD Access-a-Ride
Operated by the Regional Transportation District (RTD), Access-a-Ride is a shared-ride service intended for those who cannot use regular fixed-route bus/light rail service due to a disability.

The Ore Cart Shuttle Service
The Golden Ore Cart provides free transportation around Golden on three different regular routes.

Community Engagement
The Front Porch
Located on the upper floor of the Golden Community Center, just off 8th Street, the Front Porch provides a safe, comfortable place to meet new people, gather with friends, enjoy a cup of coffee, read a magazine, relax, and just enjoy “being.”
The Front Porch also offers classes and regularly scheduled activities, including sports and  exercise designed specifically for senior adults, book clubs, and organized games such as Mah Jongg, Pinochle and Bridge.

Help with utility Bills
Low-Income Energy Assistance Program
The Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) is a federally funded program that helps eligible hard-working Colorado families, seniors and individuals pay a portion of their winter home heating costs. 

Mental Health Support
Colorado Crisis Services
Free, confidential and immediate support from trained professionals and peer specialists, available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

Jefferson Center for Mental Health
Services for Mental Health, Substance Use, Behavioral Healthcare and Counseling
